![]() I went to Albany tonight to a lecture by Richard Florida, author of The Rise of the Creative Class. Without getting into the core message, the presentation was done with a series of photographs on a large screen behind him. At one point he was making a point about a survey he and Gallup did about what is important to people in deciding where to live, the number one reason was 'Quality of Life.' What was hilarious (to me anyway, no one else seemed to get it) was that as he was making his point, the picture changed to show Washington Park as it looked immediately after the concert at the Tulip Festival last year. To put it mildly, the place was a MESS! So for the next 20 seconds, he is speaking about how important the environment is to our quality of life and why we choose to live where we live and the whole time there is this picture of total garbage on the screen behind him. (To be fair, he was not looking at the pictures, and I'm pretty sure he didn't know it was up there). | |
