![]() Last Saturday it was beautiful out. I ran a few errands then went to the Albany Pine Bush Preserve to take a stroll. I followed a route I'd not done before and was please to happen upon this vernal pool. These pools play an important role in the ecology of the Pine Bush. They exist only in the spring time holding pools of melting snow long enough to support the growth of a variety of frogs from eggs through tadpoles to grown frogs. But they are too short lived to support fish. Interesting little bit of natural history. This pond was still too cold to support the growing amphibians, but it was fun to find. | |
