![]() It takes a bit of searching, but it is still possible to find a scene like this in the Shenandoah Valley. Development spreads from the towns like a moldy growth across the agrarian landscape. It seems that around every bend there is some new multi-hundred unit residential development or huge expanses stripped for some much needed WalMart (or the like) to serve all those people. Places I remember as being way out in the country are now served by broad highways with too much traffic. I got out one morning early, hoping to catch a sunrise over the Blue Ridge but I was too late. I drove some of the back roads and was rewarded with this nearly pristine view of cows grazing in a pasture with the Blue Ridge framing the background. The South River, a tributary of the the Shenandoah flows behind the row of trees behind the grazing cattle. For those unfamiliar with the Blue Ridge, they get their name from the nearly permanent haze that covers them, giving the mountains their distinctive blue color. Thanks to everyone who left comments while I was away. I was unable to respond and there were too many to get through when I came home. So I hope no one minds not getting personal response to all your kinds words. I am back now and will return as soon as possible to my usual pattern of commenting and replying to comments. | |
