 I awoke this morning and found the sky clear and bright, the air cool and crisp - but warming - and the desire to get out for a long walk overpowering. So I walked over to the head of the Mohawk Bike Trail about a block from my new home and took about a two and a half mile stroll along the old rail bed for the Troy-Schenectady Railroad. This is an urban trail, bordered on either side by first a little suburbia and then by the City of Cohoes, a city that thrived during the 19th century and part of the 20th. The old railroad, built in the 1850s, once connected the city of Troy with the city of Schenectady and still ran as late as the 1960's. It is not fully spring yet around here. There are a few daffodils blooming, some forsythia, and an few other little indications of the coming explosion of color. But the trees are still bare. The buds have not yet begun to swell and open to form the green leaves. But it is not long. A few more days like today and things will change. I was late to the site and left Comment #54 on a truly phenomenal photograph at these fleeting moments. Jason's site has been around since January and I spent some time today going back through the archives and, if you have not already done so (I recognized some of the 53 names before mine, but not many), I strongly recommend that you do too. The number of pictures is still managable and you can get a great overview of this talented photographer's work in short order. His picture Waxing Storm (II) was posted a few days ago and the response to it and its companion, Waxing Storm posted a few days earlier is well deserved.  | |
