EXIF: KONICA MINOLTA MAXXUM 5D | 1/4000 sec | f 8.0 | 70.0mm (35mm equivalent: 105.0mm) | ISO 800

For a variety of business and personal reasons, I have not flown anywhere for almost 10 years. I know that must sound unbelievable...but it is true. I used to travel a lot in the late 80's but only off and on since and mostly off. And two weeks from now I must go on my first flight since 9/11. I wonder how different air travel must be now from what I remember.

But as different as it may be, there must still be the same incredible rush as the engines roar to life and the jet speeds down the runway, pushing us back in our seats, and as if by magic leaping into the air. How can we be complacent about such a totally amazing phenomenon? There are so many scientific wonders that touch our lives each day that we can often forget how truly incredible it all is. But look up at the next plane that passes over you and just think think about the wonder of what is happening.
